Former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi took a playful jibe at Shaheen Afridi. During a recent public gathering, the former star said that Shaheen had become the T20I skipper by mistake. After Babar Azam stepped down as the national skipper Shan Masood was given the Test captaincy and Shaheen the T20I captaincy.

Interestingly, no skipper has been named for the ODI format. It was widely believed that Mohammad Rizwan would be given the captaincy. The Pakistani board though decided to appoint the 23-year-old as the skipper of the side.

Speaking during the public gathering, Shahid Afridi said “I admire Rizwan’s hard work and focus level. His best quality which I like the most, is only focusing on his game and paying no heed to who is doing what and what not. He is a fighter”

During the same event, the former Pakistan skipper also said “I wanted to see Rizwan as the T20I skipper, but Shaheen became the captain by mistake”. This elicited a huge roar of laughter from the crowd.

Shaheen Afridi has captained his side to a PSL title in 2023. The 23-year-old is also counted as one of the best bowlers in the shortest format of the game. The biggest challenge though for the left-arm-pacer is the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in June this year.
