Senior Pacer Mohammed is all set to be in action for team India in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. Notably, he is replacing the injured senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah who was ruled out of the entire tournament due to a knee injury. The selectors named Shami as the replacement for Bumrah at the last moment just a few days before the start of the competition.

Talking about Shami, he hasn’t played a single T20I since his last appearance with the Indian team in last year’s 20-20 World Cup in 2021. He was also at the center of discussion when selectors ignored him while selecting the squad for the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup.
But everything changed to 180 degrees when Bumrah was ruled out of the entire tournament due to the injury. There were a lot of assumptions and speculations about the possible replacement for the premier speedster. The Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Siraj was also in contention to fill this spot in the Indian teams for the prestigious tournament.
Eventually, it was Shami who made a cut to the main squad of the men in blue at the last moment. Indians will start their campaign of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 with the first match against the arch-rivals Pakistan on the 23rd of October at MCG in Melbourne. Bangladesh and South Africa are the two other teams who are placed with India in the Group B of the tournament.
Indians are coming off two successful T20I series win against Australia and South Africa in the three-match bilateral clashes. Now, Rohit’s men will be eyeing to end their 15-year trophy title draught since 2007 when they won the inaugural title of the 20-20 World Cup.
