The Ashes 2023 is down to its final Test to be played at The Oval, London from July 27 to July 31. Australia have already retained the Ashes urn for the fourth consecutive time having won the first two Tests of the series and then getting some help from the rain to draw the fourth Test with the series scoreline at 2-1 in favour of the Kangaroos. This means England can only tie the series if they manage to win the final Test. If they fail, however, they will end up giving Australia their first Test series victory in England since 2001.

As such, England skipper Ben Stokes addressed the press ahead of the final Test. He talked about a lot of things including the experience of being hard done by the weather in the previous Test. England were in a strong position to win the Test and levelling the series with one Test to go. However, a totally different incident drew the most attention during the high-octane presser. England’s pace ace Mark Wood somehow tampered with the sound system and played the famous ‘Barbie Girl’ song. The video has gone viral on social media in no time.

England are proceeding with an unchanged XI for the final Test

Notably, England will field an unchanged XI for the final Test of Ashes 2023 at The Oval. The headliner in this update was certainly James Anderson who has not been able to influence the series as he did during his prime years. However, he would retain his place and get another chance to improve on his underwhelming series so far. “Jimmy Anderson is the greatest fast bowler to play the game,” he said. “He’s not had the impact and the wickets he’d have liked to in this series, he’s come under a bit of flak, but he’s a quality performer. We want him to keep bowling,” the England skipper said.

Stokes described the experience of the previous Test in Old Trafford as a ‘bizarre’ experience. “Leaving Manchester after the game was done, I’ve never left the field, never left a game emotionless. It was a really bizarre feeling the way the game petered out because of the weather. You sort of look back and wish maybe we either got beat or Australia managed to pull a draw off in that situation,” he said. “Shaking hands with the umpires and the opposition at the end, you could see that from both sides, it was emotionless, Australia retaining the Ashes and us not being able to win it back. Two teams of professional athletes want to be out there playing against each other, doing what we do. It was a flat feeling,” Ben Stokes added.
