The fourth Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 took place at Old Trafford, Manchester from 19 July. After winning the third match, England were looking for another win to level the series while Australia were looking to seal the series with a win. Speaking of the match, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first.

While batting first, the Aussies got bundled out for 317 runs in 90.2 overs. For the home side, Chris Woakes took five wickets while Stuart Broad grabbed two wickets. James Anderson, Mark Wood, and Moeen Ali took one wicket each. For the Aussies, both Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh smashed fifties each. In reply, England scored 592 runs in 107.4 overs in their first innings.

Thus, they gained a lead of 275 runs. For England, Zak Crawley scored 189 runs off 182 balls, including 21 fours and three sixes. Apart from him, Moeen Ali scored 54 runs and Joe Root scored 84 runs. Harry Brook also scored 61 runs while Ben Stokes scored 51 runs. Jonny Bairstow also scored 99* runs. In the second innings, Australia finished day four with a score of 214 runs for five wickets in 71 overs. Marnus Labuschagne scored 111 runs. So, they were trailing by 61 runs with five wickets in hand ahead of day five. But, due to rain, no play happened as the match ended as a draw. Thus, Australia retained the Ashes while England will look to win the fifth and last match to level the ongoing series. After the match, Stokes said: "Tough one to take, playing the cricket we played then to get on the wrong side of the weather. All part of the journey. We knew the task at hand which played into our hands. Do or die, bowling them out then scoring 570 at six an over, couldn't have done too much more. Lot of pride to play for.” Crawley was adjusted the Player of the Match.
