The West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite revealed that the team drew inspiration from former Australian cricketer Rodney Hogg's remarks to prove their worth after their thrilling victory over Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. West Indies made history by breaching the Gabba fortress and defeating Australia by 8 runs in the second and final Test of the series.

The speedster Shamar Joseph emerged as the hero for the visitors, taking seven wickets in the second innings. Speaking after the victory, the West Indies skipper stated that the team found motivation in Hogg's comments, where he had labeled them as hopeless and pathetic before the Test series. West Indies had previously won a Test match on Australian soil in 1997.

“I must say we had two words that inspired us in this Test match. Mr. Rodney Hogg said that we were 'pathetic and hopeless'. That was our inspiration. We wanted to show the world we're not pathetic. And I must ask him ask him, are these muscles big enough for him [Shows his biceps],” said Braithwaite.

"The doctor told me that Shamar could do it and I had to back him. He's a superstar. I know he'll do great things for the West Indies in the future. Just his belief is incredible, he told me that he won't stop bowling till we win it." said Brathwaite.
