During the fourteenth edition of the Indian T20 league, Virat Kohli had announced that this was his last season as the skipper of the Bangalore team. However, he did specify the fact that he would continue to play for the franchise. In the meanwhile, Kohli is currently no longer India's captain in any format of the game.

The Bangalore-based franchise will have to look for a new captain in the upcoming edition of the league. Most probably, they will have to find a new leader during the mega auction, which is slated to take place on February 12 and 13. However, Ajit Agarkar was of the opinion that Kohli should continue to lead Bangalore.

He felt that it would be an ideal scenario for the franchise if the 33-year-old does end up leading them again. Agarkar also reflected on the main reasons for Bangalore's poor show in the Indian T20 League.

“If Virat Kohli can take over the captaincy and if he is happy to do it and if he has the energy to do it, I think that will be the easiest solution for them. At the end of the day, we have seen RCB over the years they haven’t invested enough money in making a proper team of 12, 13 or 14 players with enough depth,” said Ajit Agarkar on Star Sports show Game Plan: IPL auction special.

“It’s always been dependent on the top three, not enough middle order players and if you don’t have the money, you can’t do that again. So, if you break the bank for one player, doesn’t matter how good he is – will win you games but will never win you competitions,” he added.

In the meanwhile, the fifteenth edition of the league is all set to see two new teams, i.e. Lucknow and Ahmedabad. While Lucknow have picked KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi, Ahmedabad went for Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill. Agarkar went on to speak about them, and drew light on their luxury to retain players ahead of the mega auction.

"I think to a large extent you have got some of the big names, like Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, those sorts of names that you have been able to retain, which was not the case before when the two new teams had come earlier, which was a lot harder on those new teams. So I am not sure if it's even-stevens at the moment. It's a good thing, but you still have to build now for the future for more teams," Agarkar said.
