Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler can be a good choice to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Virat Kohli, the skipper of the franchise since 2013, had earlier stated to relinquish captaincy after the completion of the ongoing season. The Kohli-led team bowed out after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator.
RCB are yet to announce the successor to Kohli but Vaughan feels Buttler can be a suitable candidate owing to his calm demeanour just like MS Dhoni, who is the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper. Buttler has been one of the vital cogs for RR for three years. His blistering start upfront paves the way for the team to post a huge total on board. He made himself unavailable for the UAE leg, and it is still not clear if RR will retain him ahead of the mega auctions in 2022.
“I will throw you a name. This name is out of the box because he’s from another franchise, and they may retain him, but I would choose Jos Buttler to go there and be the captain. He’s got it in him to be like MS Dhoni. I have no doubt about him,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz
Vaughan further opined that the England wicketkeeper batter is a very astute leader and can be a good fit to lead a fearless team like RCB. “He’s been playing for the England side under Eoin Morgan. Tactically very astute. Again, I don’t know what Rajasthan are thinking of doing with him. But I would personally take Buttler to the RCB camp, put him behind the stumps, and ask him to captain,” he said.
