Team India dealt with a major blow on day four of the ongoing Ahmedabad Test against Australia. Shreyas Iyer failed to come out to bat as he went for a scan in the hospital after feeling lower back pain. He recently missed the home ODI series against the Kiwis and the first Test of this BGT due to a back injury.

But, fans were happy to see him back in the squad for the next three matches of this series. However, Iyer failed to live up to his expectations as he was coming off after a good Test series in Bangladesh. An official statement from the Indian Cricket Board came out that reads: "Shreyas Iyer complained of pain in his lower back following the third day's play. He has gone for scans and the Indian Cricket Board Medical Team is monitoring him".

Shreyas Iyer has scored 42 runs in this ongoing series in four innings. In the last Test series in Bangladesh, Iyer scored 202 runs in three innings. So, fans were not happy with such a form from the batter. But, he played a crucial counter-attacking knock in Indore when all other batters failed miserably against the Aussies spinners during India’s second innings. Even, skipper Rohit Sharma heaped high praises regarding that knock.

Rohit said: "When you're playing on pitches like this, you need a Shreyas Iyer kind of an inning. Someone has to step up, someone has to take down the bowlers. It cannot always be that the batters will get 100 runs, 90 runs, 80 runs, you have to play cameos like that. If one of the top batters can get a big score, that's a plus, that's great, but when you know the pitch has some offering, there is a challenge, you need guys to go out there and play the way Iyer did, even though it was a little unlucky or unfortunate, I would say, he timed the ball really well, straight went into the hands - not straight into the hands, Khawaja took a very good catch - but you need that kind of innings." Now, reports have come out that Iyer might miss the upcoming home ODI series against the Aussies also.
