The former spinner did not select KL Rahul in his line-up. Instead of him, he selected Gill as the second opener while picking Suryakumar Yadav as a middle-order batter. He tweeted: “My Team India 11 for the first Test 1- Rohit 2-Gill 3-Pujara 4-Virat 5-Surya 6- Jadeja 7-Bharat 8-Ashwin 9-Axar 10- Shami 11- Siraj #INDvsAUS what are ur thoughts guys?” But, fans became surprised to see him not picking KL Rahul despite being the vice-captain of team India. Even, on his official YouTube channel, Harbhajan Singh shared his vote for Shubman Gill as an opener over Rahul.
In that video, he said that If team India wants to win this Test series, then Shubman Gill should open with Rohit Sharma. Speaking about Suryakumar Yadav, he made a great comeback in this Ranji Trophy season for Mumbai. He scored 223 runs in three innings, at an average of 74.33. Even, former team India coach, Ravi Shastri claimed that Suryakumar Yadav can bring an attacking approach to the middle-order if he gets a chance in Nagpur.
