Sri Lanka are currently going through one of the worst economic and political crises and hosting a cricket tournament won't be a wise decision at the moment. Sri Lanka are due to host Pakistan and Australia as part of their upcoming home series. Amidst all that, the Cricket Board of Pakistan have extended support to the Island nation and, thus, aren’t likely to call off the upcoming series.

In an informal conversation with the reporters, the director of Media of the board of Pakistan Cricket, Samiul Hassan Burney stated that nothing is confirmed as of now, as far as upcoming Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka is concerned.

Presently, only 12 hours of electricity is being provided to the citizens of Sri Lanka. Thus, it will be difficult for the Sri Lankan board to conduct tournaments. However, Pakistan Board have stated that they will stand in support of the nation and, thus, the series is likely to go ahead as planned.

"We have a very strong relationship with the Sri Lankan Board, the two countries have always supported each other in difficult situations," Burney said.

"In the past, tours have been held in a tense situation, Pakistan did not refuse to play there despite difficult conditions, Sri Lanka also toured Pakistan," he added.

He further added that Pakistan would not refuse to play the series in July and August.

"SLC, viewing its circumstances, would take a decision which will be accepted, including playing on their grounds or neutral venue," he concluded.

For the unversed, the upcoming Asia Cup is also scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka. However, looking at the current scenario in the Island nation, it’s unlikely that they would be able to host the tournament. Due to the power shortages, hosting day/night matches would be a big concern for the nation.

As of now, their primary concern would be hosting the upcoming series against Australia. If the Australian Cricket Board denies touring Sri Lanka, then things could get a lot worse for them.
