The action returned in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Wednesday, April 19 as the 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) clashed against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The fans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium witnessed an IPL match almost after a gap of 4 years but RR's 3-match winning streak finally came to an end as they lost the match by 10 runs.

Talking about the match, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both the LSG openers KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers never looked in great touch but somehow they stitched an 82-run stand for the first wicket. They were batting at a very low pace which created a lot of pressure on them.

After getting dropped two times and escaping a run-out as well, Rahul finally departed for 39 runs off 32 balls which included 4 fours and 1 six. However, LSG surprised everyone by sending Ayush Badoni at no.3 but that didn’t work for them as he departed on the score of just 1 run. Mayers also departed after hitting a struggling half-century. Later, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran helped the team to achieve a fighting total of 154 runs.

Chasing the target, RR had a very slow start as openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal never showed the right intent and were scoring at a low pace. However, till the time they were on the crease, it looked like that RR will easily chase the target. But, the Australian all-rounder Stoinis provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Jaiswal in the 12th over. 

1 over later, he gave a huge blow to the Royals by dismissing Buttler. Samson was also run-out in the 13 the over. RR were still hoping for a victory as Shimron Hetmyer was there on the pitch but he couldn't provide anything special for the team this time. In the end, Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag tried hard but failed to reach the target.
