Three young-guns who can replace Dinesh Karthik as a finisher in team India

The 37-year-old senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was picked in the squad of the Indian team for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The selectors counted on him on the back of his brilliant performances in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. But the veteran cricketer failed to impress with his bat in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup.

Notably, the Chennai batter was one of the four players in the 2022 edition who was also there in action in the inaugural edition of the 20-20 World Cup in 2007. Following the unexpected outing from Dinesh Karthik, Indian management might count on some of the uncapped Indian cricketers to replace the senior wicketkeeper-batter for the role of finisher.

The Haryana-born bowling all-rounder has proven his worth in Indian domestic cricket. Appearing in 7 first-class, 23 List-A, and 111 T20s in the domestic circuit, Tewatia has scalped 126 wickets playing for various teams. Apart from this, the southpaw has also been brilliant in the Indian T20 League.

In the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League, Tewatia appeared for Gujarat and delivered some crucial performances for his team when it was required the most. The 29-year-old also stunned everyone when he won a match for his team after hitting two consecutive sixes on the last two balls when Gujarat required 12 runs.

So, considering his brilliant outings in the domestic circuit and the Indian T20 League, Indian management might count on him in place of Dinesh Karthik.

2. Shahrukh Khan

The 27-year-old all-rounder has played for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket at different levels. Shahrukh Khan has emerged as one of the brilliant finishers in the Indian domestic circuit. He impressed the Indian cricketing fraternity with some of his outings in a season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

If the Tamil Nadu all-rounder gives some brilliant performances in the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League, the selectors could mark him as one of the prime successors of the senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik.

3. Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma made his first domestic T20 appearance for Vidarbha eight years back in the year of 2014 against UP in a match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Since then, Jitesh has played 16 FC, 41 List-A, and 76 T20 matches in the domestic circle of Indian cricket.

Speaking of Sharma’s appearance in the Indian T20 League, he played for Punjab in the 2022 edition of the tournament. The 29-year-old smashed some good knocks in the tournament while playing for the Punjab franchise.
