As a fallout of his poor performance, his vice-captaincy role in the Indian Test side has been reprimed. For the upcoming last two Test matches against Australia, Rahul has been included in the team just as a batter. This leaves a gaping hole in the team as a form of vice-captaincy which needs to be filled as soon as possible.

Theer are however very few options in the team for the vice-captaincy role. Let’s look at the best three players who could be vice-captain for India in Tests and take KL Rahul’s role.

Cheteshwar Pujara

Pujara is one of the most experienced players in the team right now. The 35-year-old completed his 100th Test match, thereby writing his name among the very few legends of the game.

With the ongoing debate around the vice-captaincy post, the veteran could be the best option for Team India to take care of the role momentarily.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is arguably the best all-rounder in the game at the moment. Not only does he take wickets but also makes valuable runs for the team. Just in the last match against Australia, he took 10 wickets along with making 26 runs that proved significant for the team.

The southpaw’s Indian T20 League captaincy stint did not turn out as he had hoped for. However ever since then he has matured a lot and looks set to take a huge leap into the leadership role.

Shreyas Iyer

Both of the above-mentioned players however are past the mid-point of their careers and well into the second innings. India team management must be looking for a young player to groom into the leadership role and hence would be a little reprehensive to go with either of two options.

This leaves the management with Shreyas Iyer who has tons of captaincy experience from the Indian T20 League and is growing into his batting role in the Indian Test team.
