Sourav Ganguly, the current Indian Cricket Board president, is reportedly set to make way for Roger Binny to take on the seat after failing to receive support to continue as president in the recently concluded meeting.

The PTI reported that Ganguly was offered the post of Indian T20 League chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in the Indian Cricket Board after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position.

However, things did not go as planned for the former Indian skipper as he was reportedly criticized for his sub-par performance as the board’s chief. Roger Binny, who was an integral part of team India in the 1980s, is likely to take the seat ‘unopposed’ as he is the only one to file a nomination so far.

Rajiv Shukla, the current vice-president of the board, said that Ganguly was opposed to continuing as the board’s chief. Further, Shukla said Jay Shah will continue as the secretary while Ashish Shelar will be the treasurer of the board.

“Roger Binny has filed the nomination for the president’s post, myself for the vice-president’s post, Jay Shah for secretary, Ashish Shelar for treasurer and Devajit Saikia has filed the nomination for the joint secretary’s post,” Shukla was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Fans from India hit back at Ganguly

Tracing back to the rift between Ganguly and Virat Kohli, the Indian fans opined that karma has hit back at the board’s chief. It was reported, earlier, that it was Ganguly who forced Kohli to step down from ODI captaincy.

Kohli’s fans, who were quick enough to recall the incident, said that karma hits back sooner or later. The fans left no stone unturned to slam Ganguly and requested Binny to treat the Indian star batter well.

It remains to be seen if Binny would restore faith among fans and take India to greater heights. Let us take a look at some of the tweets that fans came up with after reports of Ganguly quitting as president came out:
