The Indian Cricket Board is all set to welcome a new President as several reports have suggested that Sourav Ganguly’s tenure at the helm is all but ended. According to reports, the former Indian all-rounder and member of the 1983 world cup winning team, Roger Binny, is going to replace Ganguly.

Ganguly was given the responsibility of taking charge of the world’s richest cricket board in October 2019 and was expected to bring several key changes in the coming years.

People had high expectations from the ‘Prince of Kolkata’, keeping in mind his massive contribution to Indian cricket during his playing days. His rise to the top administrative spot was welcomed by one and all as people expected Indian Cricket Board to function smoothly under his leadership.

However, his tenure was marred by several controversies, which hampered his image in the eyes of Indian cricket fans.

Ganguly was lambasted for not giving due respect to Virat Kohli and forcing him to give up his ODI captaincy. Even the former skipper publicly called out his lies during a press conference before leaving for the South Africa tour last year.

There were even reports which had alleged that Ganguly had misused his power as the Indian Cricket Board boss and forcefully attended Team India selection meetings on multiple occasions.

However, when the Supreme Court allowed the Indian Cricket Board to amend its constitution, everyone expected Ganguly to serve another term as Board’s President. As reports of his departure from the Indian Cricket Board have surfaced, people have begun speculating about the reason behind his exit.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Ganguly was criticised over his non-performance in the Indian Cricket Board meeting held in New Delhi. The report further claims that the outgoing Indian Cricket Board chief was not part of the meeting and it’s highly unlikely that he would be nominated to the Apex Cricket Council.

“What, however, is not a surprise is the absence of Sourav Ganguly in the new dispensation. It was always a foregone conclusion that he would not continue as the president, with the last nail in the coffin coming at the recent Delhi meeting where he was criticised for non-performance. Whether he will be nominated to the Apex Cricket Council is to be seen but at this stage, it looks unlikely,” Cricbuzz reported.

It remains to be seen whether Ganguly will get nominated to the Apex Cricket Council.
