The former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli was overjoyed after Mumbai won against Delhi by 5 wickets on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium. His emotions were, perhaps, quite understandable as Delhi had to lose the match if Bangalore were to reach the playoffs. The whole Bangalore team and the fans were over the moon, following Mumbai’s win over Delhi.

Amidst that, a ‘ Thank You’ tweet from Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli resurfaced on social media. The tweet perfectly fits into the current scheme of things as Bangalore wouldn’t have reached the playoffs had Mumbai not registered a win against Delhi.

To shed light on that old Tweet, Kohli simply had replied to his teammate, Rohit Sharma, who wished Virat Kohli on his birthday.

However, the netizens brought that Tweet back into the limelight after Mumbai beat Delhi by 5 wickets on Saturday. The 69th match between Mumbai and Delhi were important for Delhi and Bangalore as both teams’ qualification for the playoffs relied heavily on the result of that game.

If Delhi had managed to beat Mumbai, then they would have made a top-four finish. However, for Bangalore to reach the playoffs, Rohit Sharma and Co. ought to beat Delhi. As fate would have it, Mumbai, eventually, won the game by 5 wickets and, with that, Bangalore sealed their spot in the top-four.

Talking about the game, Delhi were asked to bat first and they managed to compile a 159-run total in the first innings. Rovman Powell top-scored with the bat, scoring 43 off 34 balls, however, the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Warner and Mitchell Marsh failed to deliver in an important game.

Mumbai, in reply, chased down the score in 19.1 overs. Ishan Kishan, once again, played a handy knock of 48 runs in 35 balls. However, it was Tim David’s 11-ball 34, which took the game out of the hands of Delhi. The defeat meant Delhi were knocked out of the tournament and Bangalore are slated to play the Eliminator match against Lucknow on Wednesday at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
