The stage was set at Wankhede Stadium on 22 April 2023 when Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL. MI came to this clash after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). While PBKS lost their last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

MI also won their last three consecutive games. Hence, they were looking to continue their momentum at their home against Sam Curran and his men. However, PBKS fans were wondering if Shikhar Dhawan made a comeback or not. But, he missed the game again as Sam Curran lost the toss and MI opted to bowl first.

PBKS defeated MI by 13 runs in IPL 2023 

While batting first, PBKS put up a mammoth total of 214 runs for eight wickets. Sam Curran scored 55 runs off 29 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Along with him, Harpreet Singh scored 41 runs off 28 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Jitesh Sharma also played an entertaining cameo as he scored 25 runs off seven balls, including four sixes. Liam Livingstone failed once again as he scored just 10 runs off 12 balls. For MI, both Piyush Chawla and Cameron Green grabbed two wickets each. Apart from them, Arjun Tendulkar, Jason Behrendorff, and Jofra Archer picked up one wicket each.

For the chase, MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan came out. But, Ishan got out for just one run. Rohit looked solid but scored 44 runs off 27 balls. Then, Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green looked to settle the ship. They put up a partnership of 75 runs as Green got out on 67 runs off 43 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Suryakumar also got out after scoring 57 runs off 26 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. Then, Tim David tried hard but MI scored only 201 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Hence, PBKS won the clash by 13 runs. PBKS’ Arshdeep Singh took four wickets for 29 runs in four overs.
