Sports Minister of Bengal Manoj Tiwari scored a hundred in the Ranji Trophy Quarter-final

Manoj Tiwari scored 73 and 136 in the two innings he batted during Ranji quarter-final match against Jharkhand.

The West Bengal Sports Minister, Manoj Tiwari played a vital role in helping the team reach the semi-final. He starred with the bat for the team in the quarter-final Ranji clash against Jharkhand. Manoj Tiwari scored 73 runs in the first innings and followed it with an outstanding knock of 136 runs in the second innings.

Tiwari notched his 28th first-class century in the quarter-final game against Jharkhand. He was elated after reaching the milestone and also pulled off a ‘thigh-five’ celebration.

Talking about the game, Bengal batted first and notched a huge score of 773 runs on the board. All the 9 players who got the chance to bat, scored at least a half-century. Sudip Gharami (186) and A Majumdar (117) went on to score hundreds.

In reply, Jharkhand were bowled out for just 298 runs on the board. Virat Singh played an unbeaten knock of 113 runs in 239 balls but he lacked support from the other end. For Bengal, Mondal and Shahbaz Ahmed both picked 4 wickets each.

Bengal batted again in the third innings and Manoj Tiwari, who scored a half-century in the first innings, went on to score a hundred. Bengal, as a result, had scored 318 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

The game went on to the 5th day’s play and eventually resulted in a draw. However, Bengal advanced to the semi-finals on the basis of their first-innings lead. It is pertinent to note that Bengal have not lost a single game in the tournament thus far and would be keen to lift the title.

The Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side will take on Madhya Pradesh in the 1st Semi-final of the Ranji Trophy from 14th June to 18th June 2022. On the other hand, Mumbai will take on Uttar Pradesh in the second semi-final on the same dates.
