India was set to host South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup but if reports are to be believed, the series has been cancelled as BCCI has finalized a window for the remainder of the Indian Premier League.
The BCCI is planning to resume the IPL from September 18 or 19 in the United Arab Emirates. The board believes that three-week window will be sufficient to finish the remainder of IPL which will also serve as the warm-up for the T20 World Cup.
“The series can’t be held and in any case there can’t be any better preparation for the T20 World Cup than playing a high intensity tournament like IPL. Since the T20 World Cup will start within a week or 10 days after completion of the IPL, the SA series can only be held at a later date. “There is a chance that India might play extra games when they tour South Africa early next year,” the source said.
Further, there are speculations that the board will shift the two match Test series against New Zealand around the dates of the end of the T20 World Cup.
Despite the concerning situation of the Coronavirus, the BCCI is hopeful of staging the T20 World Cup in India. In case, the situation doesn’t improve by then, the T20 extravaganza could be held in UAE.
The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League was postponed earlier this month after multiple players and support staff tested positive for the virus.
