Venkatesh Iyer is a WWE fan; there's no denying the fact. Recently, the Roman Reigns fan in him was in full show in a viral video where the Kolkata batter is seen celebrating Reigns's win in WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood. Fans were quick to react to the video, largely stressing that Iyer is only associated with scripted stuff, be it cricket or his other interests.

Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood. With some assistance from Solo Sikoa, he was able to extend his illustrious reign as the WWE Undisputed Universal champion.

Venkatesh Iyer played as the impact sub for Kolkata in campaign opener

Venkatesh Iyer downplayed the Kolkata team's Indian T20 League (ITL) 2023 as the impact sub in the opening-game loss against the Punjab Kings on Saturday. Nitish Rana put Punjab into bat after winning the toss, and Prabhsimran Singh helped them get off to a strong start. After that, a solid combination between Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa allowed the Mohali-based team to score 191 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Although Kolkata got off to a fast start in the chase, they kept dropping wickets at regular intervals. With Andre Russell's powerful hitting, Iyer entered the game as the impact player for the two-time ITL Champions and kept them in the match. However, in their opening game, Iyer and Russell's wickets and heavy weather forced them to accept a seven-run loss via the DLS method.

Although not having a bad start to the year, the all-rounder downplayed the significance of the defeat and claimed that they had made an effort to take advantage of the field's size. Venkatesh Iyer claimed they made some good shots and could have won the game if the connection had been stronger. The all-around player believed the club had all it needed.

"The wicket started to grip a little bit in the second innings. But we all know it was a good wicket to bat on. It's not that we didn't use the dimensions well. Obviously, it's their home ground, and it played to their advantage. The shots we hit were good shots. Unfortunately, we couldn't find the middle of the bat in those. If we had found the middle, it would have been a different story. I think credit to them for using it. We didn't lack anywhere. Just a few boundaries here and there, and the result would have been different," said the Kolkata impact player.
