Shikhar Dhawan leads Delhi Capitals to a six wicket win over Punjab Kings

Win the toss, bowl and win the game, that’s been the trend of Wankhede leg games of IPL 2021. Today’s match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings was just another example of the same. Chasing 196, Delhi Capitals looked at complete ease and cruised to victory by 6 wickets. Shikhar Dhawan seems to be in peak form and stroked a brutal 40 ball 92.

Prithvi Shaw also played a crisp inning of 32 but couldn’t carry on to get a big one. Nevertheless, his blitz set the game for Punjab Kings. Shaw along with Dhawan added 59 runs in just 5.3 overs. Playing his first game of IPL 2021, a lot was expected of Steve Smith but he looked rusty and fell for 9. Despite him scoring just 9 runs, he added 46 runs for the second wicket with Dhawan. That’s the calibre of Shikhar Dhawan. When he’s on song, he’s just unstoppable.

Dhawan again added 45 runs with Rishabh Pant with the Delhi skipper just contributing 15. Dhawan was dismissed in the 15th over but he had almost sealed the game for Delhi by then. The formalities were completed by Marcus Stoinis (22 off 13).

Earlier, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got Punjab Kings off to a flier. The duo tore apart Delhi’s bowling lineup and added 122 runs for the 1st wicket before Mayank Agarwal departed after playing a blinder of 69 in just 36 balls. With seven overs to go, Punjab Kings were well on their way to a 200+ score.

However, Delhi bowlers made a comeback in the second half of their innings and put the brakes on the run-scoring. Chris Gayle departed for 11 and was soon followed by the set KL Rahul (61 off 51). Nicolas Pooran too couldn’t do much and walked back for 9. A little cameo from Deepak Hooda and a final over blitz from Shahrukh Khan helped Punjab Kings post a respectable 195. Though the score was decent in itself, Punjab were easily 20 runs short of what they would have wanted.
