Brian Lara in awe of Devdutt Padikkal; wants him to get few hundreds in IPL 2021

Devdutt Padikkal turned out to be a revelation for RCB in the previous edition of the IPL. Making his debut in the T20 extravaganza, Padikkal surpassed legends like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to emerge as the highest run-getter for RCB in IPL 2020.

The 20-year-old featured in 15 matches for the Bangalore outfit and ended up with a stunning 473 runs at an average of 31.53 and a strike rate of 124.80. West Indies legend Brian Lara seemed impressed with the young rookie and backed him to bag a few Man of the Match awards and score centuries in the ongoing 2021 edition of the IPL.

Speaking on Star Sports' Select Dugout Live Feed, Lara lavished praises on RCB’s opening batter, saying that Devdutt batted well in IPL 2020 and played a good supporting role to the skipper and batting maestro Virat Kohli. The veteran also pointed out that the youngster needs to improve in certain areas but hopes that he would have worked on those during the break between IPL 2020 and IPL2021.

"He's (Padikkal) such a great talent. Last year he got a couple of fifties, batted well, he supported Virat Kohli very well. What I want to see in 2021 IPL is for him to go on and get a few Man of the Matches and get a couple of triple figures under his belt. Such a great little player! A few little things to iron out. I hope he did that in the break and comes back really storming hard for this IPL," Brian Lara stated.

Devdutt Padikkal didn’t have an ideal start to his campaign in IPL 2021. He missed the first match against Mumbai Indians as he was yet to regain his 100% fitness after testing positive for coronavirus in March. Devdutt featured in the second game against Sunrisers Hyderabad but marched back to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs.
