Former Pakistan skipper and veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi has come up with a big statement on the Pakistan cricket team’s tour to India in the future. Notably, both countries haven’t played any bilateral series in a course of almost 10 years. It was 2013 when the men in green toured the Indian soil last time for any bilateral series.
Later on, both teams could face each other only once in India and that was during the 20-20 World Cup 2016. Both teams played this match at the Eden Garden stadium in Kolkata.
Talking about Afridi’s statement, he has said that Indian fans are eager to welcome Pakistan cricketers to play in India as they are huge fans of the men in green.
Cricket has always improved relations - Shahid Afridi
“The relations between Pakistan and India have always improved due to cricket,” said Afridi to CricPakistan.com.
“Indians want to see Pakistan play cricket in India,” he added later.
This statement from the former all-rounder has come amidst the ongoing tensions between the cricket boards of both countries due to the question of Indian participation in the Asia Cup 2023. It all started when the secretary of the Indian cricket Board, Jay Shah came up with a shocking statement that the men in blue will not travel to Pakistan for this continental tournament.
The statement didn’t go down well with the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ramiz Raja and he came up with an aggressive response of denying Pakistan’s participation in the ODI World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to be held in India.
Subsequently, Afridi also lashed out at Ramiz Raja for the latter’s comment on the track of Rawalpindi.
“The way Ramiz was speaking, I mean I was shocked to listen to him saying that we cannot make tracks like these. International matches have been going on in Pakistan for such a long time but then we say stuff like these. Ramiz said that he wanted a turning track I feel in this weather it would have been something big," said Afridi to Samaa TV.
