A similar sort of incident happened recently when India was locking horns with Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match ODI series. Virat Kohli went on smash a brilliant century and played an amazing knock of 113 runs off 87 balls with 12 boundaries and a six to his name.

With this century, Kohli also completed his 45th international century and is now only five centuries away from breaking the record of the highest ODI tons of former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar.

Meanwhile, Gambhir also opined about the comparison of the 34-year-old with former great opener Sachin Tendulkar.

In Sachin's era, there weren't five players inside the 30-yard circle - Gautam Gambhir on comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli

"You can't compare Virat with Sachin. In Sachin's era there weren't five players inside the 30-yard circle," said Gambhir on-air during his commentary stint at Star Sports.

"It was pretty ordinary bowling. The top three of the Indian batting lineup have got lots and lots of runs behind them. Rohit and Kohli obviously, Shubman also has the ability to get so many runs in international cricket. And how easy it was for Rohit and Shubman to get runs today. That was a surprise for me. You have to be consistent and Sri Lanka's bowling outing was very very disappointing for me," he added later during the inning break after India finished on 373 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
