ICC announced the groups for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which is all set to take place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. With the announcement of the groups, it was revealed that India and Pakistan have been clubbed together in Group 2 for the showpiece event.

India have an impeccable record against Pakistan in World Cups. In seven matches played between the two nations in the 50 overs World Cups, India have won all of the games. In the T20 World Cups, India lead Pakistan 5-0.

Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir feels it will be very important for the senior players to keep calm and ensure that youngsters don’t feel pressure of the occasion. India and Pakistan matches are generally a test of player’s nerve.

The clash between the two arch-rivals will be the first since the 2019 World Cup where India thrashed Pakistan during the league stage match in Manchester. According to Gambhir, the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have to shoulder some responsibility when India takes on Pakistan.

“So, it is the responsibility of the senior guys to probably keep the younger guys calm; because ultimately, it’s not the emotion that will win you a game of cricket, it is the contest between the bat and the ball that will end up winning you a game of cricket. So, people like Virat Kohli for example, or Rohit Sharma will have a huge responsibility when Indian takes on Pakistan,” Gambhir said on Star Sports show ‘ICC T20 World Cup Special’.

Both Rohit and Virat have experienced highs in Indo-Pak rivalry. Virat scored a match-winning century against Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup and followed it up with another game-changing knock against the same opposition in the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. Rohit, on the other hand, scored a majestic 140 against Pakistan in the last encounter in Manchester. Kohli too got a substantial score in that game.
