If reports are to be believed, Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed is set to replace Mark Wood in the Lucknow camp for the Indian T2O League 2022. Wood was ruled out of the tournament after suffering an elbow injury during the ongoing Test series against West Indies.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is currently in South Africa playing an ODI series. According to a report in Kalerkantho.com, Gautam Gambhir has inquired about the availability of Taskin Ahmed. Ahmed was the star of Bangladesh's win over South Africa in the first ODI.
Gambhir is the mentor of the new franchise of Lucknow in the Indian T20 League. He was very active during the mega auction of the Indian T20 League 2022, recruiting players for the squad. After the auction, Lucknow looked like a settled squad with all bases mostly covered. But their plans received a shock when Mark Wood pulled out of the tournament. Lucknow was looking for his replacement for the past few days. The most probable name that they have decided to go with is Taskin Ahmed.
Ahmed received the news of Lucknow’s interests in him immediately after the second ODI against South Africa. Ahmed went unsold in the Indian T20 League after registering for a base price of INR 50 Lakhs. But now, it seems he might get a chance to be a part of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. If everything goes right, Taskin might have to leave for India before the Test series against South Africa.
Notably, Taskin has played 33 international T20 matches and has picked up 23 wickets. He has an economy rate of 7.75 in T20I, which is decent.
