Ravichandran Ashwin explains how his mother was convinced with fake news of his release from Rajasthan

In the recently concluded release and retention process ahead of the mini-auction for the next edition of the Indian T20 League, Rajasthan Royals happened to retain their veteran all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin. Meanwhile, there were also rumors in social media that the Rajasthan inaugural Indian T20 League champions might release Ashwin ahead of the next season.

Now, after an official confirmation from the Rajasthan camp that they have retained Ashwin, the Tamil Nadu veteran has come ahead to address the rumors himself. The 36-year-old said that it felt nice to listen about and play along with such rumors and fake news when he was aware of the fact of what the result would be.

“We didn't have any doubts about that. But still, it felt nice to play along with these rumors. I know that I am going to be a part of the team and that I haven't been released,” said Ashwin in a Video on his YouTube Channel.

Later on, Ashwin also opened up about the instance when his mother was convinced by the fake news and asked him why the franchise did it.

Rajasthan did not say that, it was only the others - Ravichandran Ashwin

“In fact, even my mother came and asked why RR released me, I told her yes, they were going to release me. But RR did not say that. It was only the others. I was seeing myself as news from the outside when I knew the actual truth,” he added later.

“Even I felt sad since I did reasonably well for them last year. But then I received an email from RR stating that they were extremely pleased to retain me this year. Only then I realized that my release was just a rumor,” concluded Ashwin.

Notably, Ashwin was recently in action during the 20-20 World Cup 2022 where he could scalp only six wickets in the entire tournament and failed to deliver an impact. There are also speculations that the legendary Test all-rounder of India might hang his boots from the shortest format of the game.
