Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clashed against each other in the  26th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 19. LSG are back on the winning track by defeating RR in a thrilling contest by 10 runs.

Earlier, RR won the toss and asked LSG to put runs on the scoreboard. In the first two overs, none of the LSG openers were able to get going, and captain KL Rahul was even dropped twice. They did get a few good overs, scoring 13 and 18 off the eighth and ninth over respectively.

Then RR yanked it back, once more. Jason Holder used a slower delivery to have Rahul caught at long-on, and the attempt to promote Ayush Badoni failed when Trent Boult nipped him out to conclude with remarkable figures of 1/16.

LSG's score at the end of the 14th over was barely 104/4. Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets in one over as he got rid of dangerous Kyle Mayers, who smashed a fifty but didn’t look in great touch. Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis needed to make major plays, but RR handled the ball with relative accuracy. Sandeep Sharma produced another fantastic final over despite Holder giving up 17 runs in the 19th over and they restricted LSG on the total of 154 runs.

Brilliant bowling display by RR

Rajasthan Royals had a strong start to the chase given by Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, reaching 47 at the end of the powerplay without losing a wicket. In fact, despite both openers reaching their 30s, they didn't lose a wicket until the 12th over. However, the game changed, when Stoinis provided the much-needed breakthroughs for LSG. He managed to dismiss both the set RR openers while switching between a preventable Sanju Samson run-out.

After those three quick wickets, LSG started to put pressure on the opposition, and boundaries completely dried up. Shimron Hetmyer was unable to do any heroics this time, while Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag made a valiant effort to make the game entertaining in the closing minutes but may have used up too many balls in the process.
