Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 has been a miserable season for the Quetta Gladiators. After losing all but one game in the season, they have been dealt with two massive injury blows. A day after losing Andre Russell, they have now lost Faf du Plessis, who was taken to hospital after colliding with Quetta Gladiators' teammate Mohammad Hasnain in a scary injury.

The incident took place during the 7th over of Peshwar Zalmi's inning. In an attempt to save the boundary, Faf's head collided with Hasnain's knee. The injury looked painful and serious at the same time. According to Pakistan media, the South African was immediately taken for scans. Karachi-based left-handed batsman Saim Ayub was named as the concussion substitute for Du Plessis.

The Gladiators couldn't bear the brutal assault from David Miller and succumbed to a crushing 61 run loss. Miller's blistering knock of 73 off 46 balls, supported by a late flourish from Rovman Powell (43 off 19 balls) helped Peshawar post a daunting 197-5. As has been the case throughout the tournament, Quetta Gladiators' batsmen showed little resistance and hobbled to 136 for nine, after being 62 for no loss in the eighth over. The defeat has derailed Quetta Gladiators campaign and has knocked them out of the competition. Peshawar Zalmi, on the other hand, moved up to join Islamabad United on eight points from seven games.

Gladiators roped in Du Plessis and Russell after Chris Gayle, Ben Cutting and other overseas stars pulled out of the league. Du Plessis was in stellar form in the Indian Premier League and Quetta Gladiators banked upon him for turnaround in the second leg. However, that was not the case to be as he failed to play any substancial knock in the two matches he played. His participation in the remainder of the tournament is not certain. Gladiators next play Lahore Qalandars on June 15.
