Team India are currently busy playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at home. However, they made a winning start to the series as the second match will begin on 17 February 2023. But, on 14 February, team India’s chief selector, Chetan Sharma made headlines as his explosive interview became viral. He claimed that the former Indian cricketer was not in favour of Rohit Sharma but also never liked Virat Kohli. He said: "Ganguly did not favour Rohit but he never liked Virat. You can put it in this way." The statement came in the context of Virat Kohli as he got removed from the captaincy during Sourav Ganguly’s tenure.

“Virat Kohli was lying about Sourav Ganguly” - Chetan Sharma

In 2021, Virat Kohli was team India’s all-format captain. Before the 20-20 World Cup 2021, the former India skipper announced that he would step down from the T20I captaincy after the World Cup. But, the Board asked him to step down from the ODI captaincy also as the Indian Cricket Board wanted to make a common captain in both white-ball formats. Then, before the South Africa series, the Board announced that Rohit Sharma would be the new captain in white-ball formats. Regarding that, Sourav Ganguly claimed that “the Indian Cricket Board had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper, but, obviously, he did not agree”.

Then, Kohli said: 'When I communicated to the Board about quitting as India's 20-20 captaincy, it was received very well. There was no offence or no hesitation. I was never told that ‘you should not leave 20-20 captaincy', in fact it was received very well, as a progressive step and in the right direction.” Now, Chetan Sharma claimed that Virat Kohli tried to defame Sourav Ganguly and he was lying when he said that the Board president never told him about this. He said: “The truth is that that he (Ganguly) did tell him. 8-9 people were there, and Ganguly told him (not to give up captaincy). Virat was lying, but no one knows why... and that is his personal matter, but it became a huge controversy. It became a Board versus player clash.”
