After Rajasthan Royals eliminated Punjab Kings from the Indian Premier League 2023 on May 19 in the most recent match, the battle for the IPL 2023 playoffs became more competitive. Both sides had to win because the outcome would have determined their place in the competition. Ultimately, Rajasthan managed to keep their tournament aspirations alive.
Gujarat Titans are still the only club to have qualified, though, as there are still three open berths. This year has been a rollercoaster for teams, and each is working hard to reach the top four. Since no one can now anticipate which three teams will join Gujarat in the elimination round of the event, former cricketer Aakash Chopra made a suggestion.
The league phase of IPL 2023 ends on Sunday, May 21
The expert commentator made two observations from the 17th iteration of the lucrative event. He suggested that teams should receive extra points if they win by a wide margin and that the matches in the tournament’s final leg should be played simultaneously to prevent players from becoming anxious about the outcomes of other teams.
“There are two changes that I’d propose for next season’s IPL 1. Introduction of the Bonus Points for winning a game with a huge margin. NRR is absolute, but over 14 games is a tough math to understand. Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better. And also keeps the interest alive for longer. 2. Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR…because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow, depending on today’s results. Thoughts welcome,” Chopra wrote on Twitter.
Chopra’s suggestion met various views from fans ‘Pehle toh impact player hatao’ – Fans react as Aakash Chopra suggests new set of rules for future editions of IPL on Twitter. While some agreed that his logical suggestions credit merit, some were mindful of the league’s obsession with viewership numbers and commercial angles. At the same time, another issue that gained currency was the level of umpiring in the league.
Here’s how fans reacted:

Some other suggestions:
1) A minimum scoring rate of 130 to be made required for a batsman to be considered for the Orange Cap.
2) The powerplay of 6 overs to be split into 2 powerplays of 3 overs each, and the batting team be given the right to decide when to take a powerplay

IPL is all about entertainment and viewership… this is not international cricket… so what makes you think the businessmen will allow their viewership to be divided if games start at the same time?

Your proposal don’t serve any purpose.
1. Winning with huge margin depends more on dew & toss factor . Then Toss & dew will have more impact than your proposal. Isn’t it ? Even Psychologically affect losing team & its fans:
2. Just not ideal for all seasons I feel— 🔥🇮🇳P R A K A S H Karuppiah✈️ (@andamanprakash) May 20, 2023
And change the script writer too please. It’s become so predictable to know who’ll be in playoffs or finals !!
