West Indies legend Brian Lara has spent considerable time with Umran Malik in the camps of the Indian Premier League franchise SunRisers Hyderabad. The two have worked together for a considerable time for Lara to realise that Umran’s skillset leaves a lot to be desired other than raw pace. In a recent interaction with a YouTube channel, Lara said that Umran needs to learn the tricks to compliment his pace.

“He will be a sensation, but very quickly he will have to learn that fast bowling really does not trouble the best players in the world. You have to have the ability to do something with the ball, be sensible, and maybe understand times when you have to trickle back or understand the times when you have to up the tempo. He is very young and has got a lot of years ahead of him,” said Lara on the YouTube channel 'Wake Up With Sorabh'.

‘He could definitely be one of the best India could produce’ -  Brian Lara on Umran Malik

“We have had so many different examples. Wasim Akram was raw pace, Malcolm Marshall had destructive pace, and Michael Holding. But they all know that at some point in time, they had to come with a lot more tricks than just being able to bowl fast. If he (Umran Malik) works with Dale Steyn, he could definitely be one of the best India could produce,” he added.

SunRisers Hyderabad recently parted ways with Brian Lara who was their head coach. He will be replaced by Daniel Vettori as the new head coach ahead of the 2024 IPL season. “As our 2-year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him. Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours,” the franchise led by CEO Kaviya Maran said in an official statement. They announced the arrival of Vettori with a special Tweet and wrote, “Kiwi legend Daniel Vettori joins the #OrangeArmy as Head Coach. Welcome, coach!”
