If reports are to be believed, the Pakistan Cricket Board is planning to make some eye-popping changes in the new central contracts for the players. The board is likely to promote several cricketers and add new players based on their performance last year.
Pakistan head coach Misbah ul Haq, Chief selector Muhammad Waseem, Director International Zakir Khan and PCB Chief Executive Waseem Khan will sit together for a consultation post the Zimbabwe tour. The current contract of the players will expire on June 30.
Premier fast bowler Hasan Ali, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf and leg spinner Usman Qadir are most likely to get an extension while pacer Usman Shinwari and top order batsman Iftikhar Ahmed may be left out of the central contract.
Pace duo of Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain could be promoted to C category while Fakhar Zaman, after his impressive outing in South Africa, can be moved up to B category. Shan Masood and Asad Shafiq are likely to be demoted.
Mohammad Hafeez, who rejected the contract in the C category may be offered another contract in the same category. Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi are expected to retain their slot in the A category. The PCB is considering to include Fawad Alam and Hasan Ali in the A category after their sizzling performances in the first Test in Harare.
Muhammad Nawaz, Imran Butt, Nauman Ali and Zahid Mahmood are also being considered for the central contract. Also, a proposal is being discussed to demote Azhar Ali from A category to B category as he only plays one format of the game.
Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by an innings and 116 runs in the first Test. The second and final Test of the series will get underway from May 7th.
