KL Rahul silenced his critics in some style as he played a match-winning knock against Australia in the first ODI in Mumbai. India were in trouble while chasing 189 runs by losing four early wickets. Then, Rahul came out and scored 75* runs to seal a five-wicket victory over the Aussies. Then, the former India pacer, Venkatesh Prasad came up and heaped high praise on the star batter.

Recently, Prasad came into the headlines when he questioned Rahul’s place in the playing XI during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He shared some stats compared to other batters and accused the Indian Cricket Board of favouring him over others despite not being in top form. KL Rahul played the first two matches and scored just 38 runs in three innings in that series. After that, he did not get to play the last two matches and fans were wondering how he will perform in the three-match ODI series opener.

Here is the shared tweet:

KL Rahul stitched an unbeaten partnership of 108* runs with Ravindra Jadeja in the first ODI

Speaking of the tweets, Venkatesh Prasad wrote: “Excellent composure under pressure and a brilliant innings by KL Rahul. Top knock. Great support by Ravindra Jadeja and a good win for India. #INDvAUS”. Seeing that, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform. Not only Prasad, before the Test series against the Aussies, many former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev also raised their voices against the selection of Raahul in the playing XI.

They claimed that team India should pick Shubman Gill instead of him as an opener to give a better balance to the playing XI. Speaking of the match, Australia got bundled out for just 188 runs while batting first in Mumbai. In reply, India chased down the target in just 39.5 overs with five wickets in hand. KL Rahul scored 75* runs off 91 balls while Ravindra Jadeja scored 45* runs off 69 balls. They put up an unbeaten partnership of 108* runs for the sixth wicket to seal the match for the Men in Blue.
