On 1 April 2023, the Lucknow franchise took on the Delhi franchise at the Ekana cricket stadium. An enthralling battle was waiting for fans as KL Rahul and his men were looking for a winning start in front of the home crowds. On the other hand, David Warner was also looking for a good start as he got the leadership duties in absence of Rishabh Pant in the Indian T20 League 2023.

In the last edition, Lucknow got knocked out in the eliminator against the Bangalore franchise. While Delhi finished in the fifth position with seven wins out of 14 games. Speaking of the match, Warner won the toss and asked Rahul’s side to bat first. For the home side, the skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers came out to bat.

But, the poor form of Rahul continued as he got out for just eight runs off 12 balls. Mayers impressed everyone with his power-hitting abilities. He scored 73 runs off 38 balls, including two fours and seven sixes. Then, Nicholas Pooran scored 36 runs off 21 balls and Ayush Badoni scored 18 runs off seven balls. These contributions helped them to post 193 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. For Delhi, both Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya grabbed two scalps. While both spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.

For the chase, Warner and Prithvi Shaw came out to bat. But, Mark Wood showed his class as he picked up two wickets in his first over only. Shaw scored 12 runs while Mitchell Marsh managed a golden duck. After that, Rilee Rossouw scored 30 runs off 20 balls. Warner was the lone warrior as he scored 56 runs off 48 balls. He smashed seven fours. After that, no other batters managed to score significantly as they scored 143 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Thus, Lucknow defeated Delhi by 50 runs and registered their first win of the season. Mark Wood took a fifer with the ball for Lucknow.
