On 1 March, the Lucknow franchise took on Delhi at their home ground in the Indian T20 League 2023. It was the first game for KL Rahul and his men. However, the last few months have been very tough for Rahul. Questions have been raised about his position in the Indian Cricket team.

His recent performances have been very poor for team India across all formats. Before the recent home Test series against the Aussies, many former cricketers claimed that India should not pick KL Rahul as it would affect the balance of the team. Still, the Men in Blue showed faith in him and played him in the first two matches.

KL Rahul scored just eight runs off 12 balls against Delhi

In those two Tests, he scored 38 runs in three innings. After that, he got dropped in the last two Tests. But, he had another opportunity in the three-match ODI series against the Aussies. But, KL Rahul managed only one fifty-plus score in three matches. So, all eyes were on him when Lucknow took on Delhi at the Ekana cricket stadium.

However, the global mentor of the franchise, Gautam Gambhir has always heaped high praise on Rahul. After their recent jersey launch event, Gambhir said: "We are very fortunate to have someone like KL Rahul, who has a very stable and balanced head. I wish I had it, I did not have that. I was very extreme, but it did work for me. For a franchise like Lucknow, it is important to have someone like KL at the helm. Going forward, this is going to be a massive positive for us. The captain is the flag bearer of the team. It is the captain's team. All of us in the dressing room are there to support him.      

But, KL Rahul disappointed his fans once again as he scored only eight runs off 12 balls in the opening match. He managed only one six during his short stay at the crease. Chetan Sakariya took his wicket and gave an early blow to Lucknow.
