The Indian team has performed exceptionally well in the shortest format of the game under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. The Indian team defeated England by 2-1 in the three-match T20I series, then they continued the same form and outplayed the West Indies in the five-match T20I series with a score line of 4-1.

As India had already won the series after the four T20Is, so, regular skipper Rohit Sharma decided to sit outside in the last and fifth match of the series. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya led the team in the absence of Rohit during the last fixture of the series.  It was only the third match for Hardik when he was in the role of captain for team India.

Considering his limited stint as captain in international cricket, nothing can be judged about his leadership too early. Although, some experts and cricket fans believe that he has a strong case to be the choice for a full-time captain of the Indian team as Rohit Sharma’s successor.

Pandya hasn’t said anything very clearly on this matter. He also talked about these discussions in the post-match presentation after the last T20I against West Indies.

“It's a very special feeling to get a chance to lead your country. Obviously then winning the game means a lot to me. Captain Ro (Rohit Sharma) did everything well before this game, so I just ensured that we kept doing the good work,” said Pandya in his statement.

Later on, he also opened up about the chances of being a full-time captain of the Indian team.

“Why not? If given a chance, I'll be more than happy to do it. But for now, we have a World Cup coming, it's about getting better as a team,” he added later.
