The auction of the Women’s T20 League took place at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on 13 February 2023. All fans were excited to see ver 400 players participating in the auction process. However, Jemimah Rodrigues was one of the names to watch out for as she has been an integral part of the India Women’s team.

As expected, an intense bidding war began between the UP and Delhi franchise. Then, the amount was raised further to INR 1.5 Crores by Delhi. After that, Mumbai joined the party but finally, Delhi managed to buy Jemimah Rodrigues for a whopping amount of INR 2.2 Crores for the WTL 2023.

So, this star batter has played 76 T20Is for the Women in Blue. In 66 innings, she has scored 1628 runs, at an average of 30.71. Jemimah Rodrigues is currently busy playing the ongoing 20-20 World Cup for India in South Africa. On 12 February, she made a great start to the tournament by winning the first game against Pakistan. She played a match-winning knock of 53* runs off 38 balls, including eight fours. However, before the World Cup, fans were worried about her form. In the recently concluded tri-series in South Africa, Rodrigues scored 57 runs in four innings, at an average of 28.50.

Before the auction, Jemimah Rodrigues shared her excitement about the whole auction process of the Women’s T20 League. She said: “We have always watched the men’s Indian T20 League and how the auctions are going to be. I was already glued to it and it is very exciting. So, we always imagine what it would be like for us to experience that kind of a moment and have not experienced that yet because it has not yet happened. But when it happens, I’m sure it’s going to be special because it’s the first edition of the WTL.”
