After registering an emphatic win in the recently-concluded ODI series against England, the Indian women’s team is currently in action in the ongoing Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022. The women in blue started their campaign with an amazing win against Sri Lanka Women in the second match on day 1 of the tournament.

Apart from India’s win, young Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues has also accomplished a unique feat with her amazing knock of 76 runs off 53 balls with 11 sixes and a six in her account. Later on, India went on the win the match by 41 runs to start their campaign on a winning note.

Coming back to Jemimah, then she has become the youngest player to score a half-century in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup. She has surpassed Bangladesh’s Fargana Hoque who achieved this record at the age of 25 years and 79 days.  Whereas, Jemimah achieved this feat only at the age of 22 years and 26 days.

Speaking of the match between Indian Women and Sri Lanka Women, then Sri Lankan skipper Chamai Athapaththu won the toss. She asked the Indians to bat first in the Sylhet. Batting first, Indian girls posted a decent total of 150 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Thanks to the brilliant 92-run partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur for the third wicket helped India to recover from the early two blows.

Other than Jemimah’s half-century, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also played a vital knock of 33 runs off 30 balls with two boundaries and a six to his name. Oshadi Ranasinghe scalped three wickets in her quota of four overs.

While defending the target of 151 runs, Indian bowlers bundled up the Sri Lankan team only on the score of 109 runs in 18.2 overs. Dayalan Hemalatha scalped three wickets by conceding only 15 runs. Other than him, star all-rounder Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar also scalped two wickets each alongside one wicket claimed by Radha Yadav.
