Mohammed Shami came in as a late replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the 20-20 World Cup. However, ever since he reached Australia, the talismanic pacer has been hitting the headlines. Shami, who sweat it hard in the nets, got the better of Dinesh Karthik and the video went viral on social media.
The warm-up matches for India got underway on October 17, Monday against Australia and Shami penned an emotional note on Twitter ahead of the match. For the unversed, the pacer battled Covid-19 and recovered on time for the showpiece event.
The pacer said that it required a lot of hard work and dedication to get his call-up again. Further, Shami expressed his delight in getting back into the groove and hoped for a good outing in the upcoming event. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Pakistan on October 23 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
“It required a lot of hard work, commitment and dedication to be back but the journey to Australia has been thoroughly rewarding. No better feeling than to be back with #TeamIndia and my boys. Looking forward to the World Cup,” wrote Shami on his Twitter account.

Ahead of the warm-up game against the Kangaroos, the Indian skipper said in the toss that he wanted the pacers to gain confidence ahead of the main clash against Pakistan. Rohit highlighted that a few players are on their to Australia and said that it was important to arrive early in the country.
“Just wanted to try out things, we don't mind batting first and setting a target. We came here early and had a preparatory camp in Perth. These two games will allow us to get into the groove, we want to try out certain things in the two games we have here,” said Rohit in the toss.
“I know which bowlers will play in my mind, but it's important to give them confidence. Few of them are on their first tour of Australia, a fantastic place to play cricket and enjoy while learning the conditions,” he added.
