On 24 May 2023, the stage was set at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk for the eliminator clash of the ongoing IPL. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) and the winner of this clash will face Gujarat Titans (GT) in qualifier two. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first.

At the toss, he said: “We are going to bat first. Typical Chennai wicket, looks good at the moment, don't know how much wear and tear will happen. Back in Mumbai we want to chase, this ground here with a longer boundary, it's better to put up a score. The boys are upbeat about it, we have qualified and we are here. There have been ups and downs, but we have learnt a lot, and learnt what we can do as a team. We are ready for this game. We have one change, Karikeya is out, Shokeen is in.”

MI lost their both openers for just 38 runs in 4.2 overs

While LSG skipper, Krunal Pandya said: “It has been an up and down season, but we have fought and never gave up. We have match winners, it's a team effort from us, that's a really good sign. We have covered all bases, just need to execute our skills. We would have batted first as well, but now we have to play some good cricket.” For MI, skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan came out to bat.

Rohit came to this clash with a dismal run of form on his back. He has hit only two fifties so far in the tournament. So, MI fans were hoping for a good knock from their skipper in a knockout game like this. But, Rohit disappointed again as he got out after scoring just 11 runs off 10 balls, including one four and one six. He also got out to Naveen-ul-Haq and that made the whole scenario even worse for fans.
