Cameron Green broke a finger in his right hand while batting during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa last month. After that, he had surgery on the affected area. Still, reports were there that he might play the series opener despite not being able to bowl. But, now, Australia’s vice-captain, Steve Smith confirmed his unavailability for the Nagpur Test.

"If Greeny was fit, it would be definitely more of an option.” - Steve Smith on Cameron Green

Cricket Australia shared some pictures where Steve Smith and David Warner were seen checking the Nagpur pitch closely. After that, while speaking to reporters, Steve Smith opened up about the pitch and the unavailability of Cameron Green. He said: "Pretty dry, particularly one end. I think it will take a bit of spin, particularly the left-arm spinner taking it into our left-handers. There's a section there that's quite dry. Other than that, I can't really get a good gauge on it. I don’t think there will be a heap of bounce in the wicket, I think it will be quite skiddy for the seamers and maybe a bit of up-and-down movement as the game goes on. The cracks felt quite loose. I'm not entirely sure – we'll wait and see."

Regarding Cameron Green, he said: "If Greeny was fit, it would be definitely more of an option. Without him, I'm not entirely sure. We've got a strategy meeting this arvo where we'll talk about what we think. Ultimately it's down to the selectors to pick the team they think is best for the surface." Speaking about Green, he had a decent home Test series against the Proteas. In that series, Cameron Green scored 69 runs in three innings, at an average of 69. With the ball, Green managed a fifer in the first innings of the second Test.
