‘Naam Yogi Adityanath Stadium hoga’ – Fans react to reports of building new stadium in Varanasi for 300 crores by Indian Cricket Board

Cricket has been a great sport for all people in India. Currently, India have 53 international stadiums across different cities. Now, reports have come out that Varanasi is set to have a new stadium for 300 crores. The construction work will begin soon according to the Indian Cricket Board.

According to the district government officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of the new stadium when he will make his proposed visit to the city on 24 March 2023. A senior official at the Raja Ka Talab tehsil said that 32 acres of land have been acquired outside Ganjari village in Varanasi for the stadium.

“Varanasi will have an international cricket stadium.” – VCA secretary Javed Akhtar Khan 

The land owner has also given a compensation of Rs. 121 Crores. Recently, the Indian Cricket Board’s vice-president, Rajiv Shukla, and secretary, Jay Shah inspected the land along with a team of technical experts. They also held meeting with the office-bearers of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and Varanasi Cricket Association (VCA). After the meeting, the VCA secretary Javed Akhtar Khan said: “Varanasi will have an international cricket stadium. Thanks to the Indian Cricket Board, UPCA, the government of India, and the U.P. government for the support for a global-standard stadium in Varanasi.”   

Speaking of stadiums, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the world’s largest one. This stadium has a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators. However, this stadium received the Guinness World record for the largest attendance at a T20 match. A total of 101,566 people witnessed the final of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the stadium. However, after hearing the reports of a new stadium in Varanasi, fans came up with some funny tweets, and memes about the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath on the social media platform. They claimed that the name of the stadium will be on the chief minister only.
