Virat Kohli nears his century, Day 1 WI vs IND (Source: Twitter)
After kicking their Caribbean tour off in perfect style, Team India travelled to Trinidad to play the West Indies in the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval. Talking of Test 1, Ravichandran Ashwin’s 12-wicket haul and Yashasvi Jaiswal's fabulous debut scoring 171 off 387 had helped India to a win by an innings and 141 runs. They got off the mark in their World Test Championship 2023-35 cycle.
The host won the toss once again but they decided to bowl first, inviting the Indian openers out to the middle. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma started from where they left off in the first Test. But, unfortunately, none of them could complete their centuries. While Jaiswal was the first batter to depart, the opening partnership had already contributed 139 runs. He scored 57 off 74 balls, including nine fours and one maximum. At the same time, skipper Rohit Sharma played magnificently well for his 80 off 143 balls, including nine fours and two maximums.
Virat Kohli played his 500th international match
Coming to the man of the hour, Virat Kohli, who is playing his 500th international game is currently batting at 87* off 161 balls, including eight boundaries. Accompanying him at the crease is Ravindra Jadeja with 36* off 84 balls, including four boundaries. Unfortunately, Shubman Gill once again failed to impress as he went out for 10 off 12 although he hit two boundaries in his 10-run knock. Similar was the case with Ajinkya Rahane who faced 36 balls for his eight runs. India closed the day out at 288/4 and will be eyeing to add a few more runs with Ishan Kishan and Ravichandran Ashwin yet to bat.
Talking of the bowling from West Indies, there was no standout bowler as Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel, Jomel Warrican and Jason Holder successfully scalped one wicket each. As things stand, India appear to be the favourites in whitewashing the hosts. Following the Tests, the two teams will contest in three ODIs and five T20Is.
