The first ODI of the three-match series between India and West Indies began on Thursday, July 27 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados with Indian captain Rohit Sharma electing to bowl first after winning the toss. The Men in Blue started with four seamers, two spinners and five batters, with Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in the middle order.

Meanwhile, during the match, Suryakumar Yadav was spotted wearing Sanu Samson's jersey. It is learned that Yadav was forced to wear his teammate's jersey due to logistical issues with luggage not arriving on time. Samson's No. 9 jersey was clearly captured on camera and a picture of Yadav wearing it went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Samson was picked ahead of Yadav and wicketkeeper Kishan in the playing XI. The Kerala-born cricketer has had an inconsistent run with Team India and the trend remains to be same as he was once again ignored. The right-handed batter has scored 330 runs in 11 ODIs at an average of 66, including two half-centuries.
On the other hand, World No. 1 T20I batter Yadav has never really impressed in the 50-over format. He even registered three consecutive golden ducks in the last ODI series against Australia. The Mumbai batter scored just 433 runs at a poor average of 24.05 from 23 matches. Kishan's story is not any different. Despite scoring a double century against Bangladesh, the southpaw has yet to make an impact in the format.
Umran Malik has returned to the ODI format, while Mukesh Kumar, who made his Test debut during the ongoing tour, has earned his maiden ODI cap for Team India.
