On 16 May 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) locked horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL. The 63rd match of the ongoing tournament took place at BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium. Before the clash, LSG were in the fourth spot with 13 points in 12 games while MI were in the third position with 14 points in 12 games.

It was a massive clash for both teams in order to strengthen their place in the race for the playoffs. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. For LSG, Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock came out to bat. But, Hooda failed again as he scored five runs off seven balls. 

MI suffered a five-run defeat at the hands of LSG

Then, de Kock scored 16 runs off 15 balls, including two sixes. After that, Krunal Pandya played a stable inning before getting retired hurt on 49* runs off 42 balls. He smashed one four and one six in that knock. However, it was a disappointing outing for Prerak Mankad as he managed a golden duck. But, it was Marcus Stoinis who played an outstanding knock on a tricky pitch in Lucknow. Stoinis remained not out on 89* runs off 47 balls, including four fours and eight sixes. Thus, LSG scored 177 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. For MI, Jason Behrendorff took two wickets for 30 runs in four overs. While Piyush Chawla took one wicket also.

In reply, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma came out to open and both of them gave a solid start to their team. In six overs, MI scored 58 runs without losing any wickets. Their first wicket fell on 90 runs in 9.4 overs as Rohit got out on 37 runs off 25 balls, including one four and three sixes. After that, Ishan Kishan got out after scoring 59 runs off 39 balls, including eight fours and one six. Suryakumar Yadav also failed cheaply for seven runs off nine balls. After that, other batters fought hard but they scored 172 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Hence, LSG won the game by five runs.
