Shami has been in sublime form in the ODI World Cup 2023

In the ongoing ODI World Cup, Shami had to start as a reserve initially. But fate had different intentions. Due to injuries affecting key players, Shami was granted the chance to make an impact. In addition to it, in the four matches which the star India bowler has played in the tournament he has played, the right-arm seamer has amassed 16 wickets with an extraordinary average of 7 along with one 4-fer and two 5-fer to his name already.

Shami started his World Cup 2023 campaign against New Zealand and then against England where he was exceptional, as he secured nine wickets in just two games. On November 2, during a match against Sri Lanka, Shami achieved the milestone of becoming India's all-time leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup, surpassing legendary figures like Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath. He has now accounted for 47 dismissals in 15 matches that Shami has played for the Indian team.
