In the most recent ODI rankings unveiled on November 8, Wednesday, sawย Shubman Gill surpassing Babar Azam to claim the top position as the world's No.1 ODI batsman. He now boasts 830 rating points, while Babar Azam dropped to the second spot with 824 points. Remarkably, Gill reached the No.1 ranking in just 41 innings, becoming the second quickest to achieve this feat, with MS Dhoni retaining the title of the fastest, achieving it in 38 innings.

Shubman Gill has emerged as the top run-scorer in ODIs and international cricket in the current year. He is on the cusp of reaching the 2000-run milestone in the year, which would make him the first batter to achieve this feat. While Gill has been the leading run-scorer in one-day internationals in 2023, his performance in the ongoing World Cup has been somewhat inconsistent. He has recorded two half-centuries, with an impressive 92 against Sri Lanka, but he missed India's first two matches due to dengue.

Three Indian bowlers in top 10 rankings

In the realm of ODI cricket, Mohammed Siraj has had an exceptional year as a bowler. Although he had a relatively slow start to the World Cup, he gained momentum and displayed a remarkable performance against Sri Lanka. It's worth noting that Siraj had previously dismantled the Sri Lankan team with a remarkable six-wicket haul during the Asia Cup final in September. Furthermore, among the top 10 bowlers in the rankings, there are three more prominent Indian bowlers, namely Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami. Shaheen Shah Afridi's ranking took a dip, dropping five places to land at No.5 in the bowler rankings after Pakistan's game against Bangladesh. Afridi had a challenging outing against New Zealand, recording the most expensive bowling spell for Pakistan in the history of the World Cup. In the upcoming match between England and Pakistan, which will be their final league game, Shaheen Shah Afridi will have an opportunity to redeem himself.
