All eyes were on team India on 1 February 2023 when they took on New Zealand in Ahmedabad for the series decider. Both teams came to this clash after winning one game each. So, both teams were looking to win the series by winning the last match. However, team India managed to win it and Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal role in it.

Shubman Gill made headlines as he scored his maiden T20I ton in the match. He also won the player of the match award for that knock. But, Suryakumar Yadav played a vital role as he played a quickfire cameo with the bat and took three brilliant catches while fielding. While batting first, team India scored 234 runs for four wickets.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 97 runs in three matches of the T20I series against the Kiwis

Suryakumar Yadav scored 24 runs off 13 balls, including one four and two sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 184.61. While chasing, New Zealand batters had a terrible start as they lost four wickets for seven runs in just 2.4 overs. Among those dismissals, skipper Hardik Pandy took the wickets of Finn Allen and Glenn Philips. In both instances, Suryakumar Yadav was at the slips and he pulled off a timely-jumped catch with both hands. Fans along with the player himself were in shock after seeing such top efforts on the field.

Then, he managed to take another good catch on the boundary rope during the ninth over. Mitchell Santner was batting while Shivam Mavi was bowling. On the third delivery of that over, Santner tried to hit Mavi for a six through a pull shot. But Suryakumar Yadav grabbed the catch right at the edge of the boundary line by balancing himself on one foot. So, fans were happy to see him with such excellent fielding skills on the field. Speaking about his form, Surya scored 97 runs in three matches, at an average of 48.50.

Here is how fans have reacted to the fielding effort  from Suryakumar Yadav in the third T20I:
