Australia's Marnus Labuschagne has become a vital cog in Australia's Test side. After the Ashes 2021-22 early this year, he became the number one batter in the longest format. He held onto the position until it was taken over by England's Joe Root in June this year. Currently, the South Africa-born player holds the number two spot in the Test rankings.

Meanwhile, the right-hander was asked to rate the world-class players in Test cricket. He sees the Australia skipper Steve Smith as the number one batter. Virat Kohli comes next. The former India skipper is currently ranked number 12 in the world rankings.

Australia batter ranked Joe Root, Babar Azam, and Kane Williamson at the third, fourth and fifth position respectively. The former England skipper, Root had a dream season in the last calendar year as he scored around 1700 runs. Azam, on the other hand, is in great form across formats in the last few months. Talking about Williamson, he has been struggling with the elbow injury in the last year or so. This has impacted his batting.

"Steve Smith. I will go with Virat next. Joe Root three, his record in red-ball, and for someone who has done it for so long in different conditions, he has a great record in the sub-continent, and plays well in England. Babar and Kane then. It is a tough list. In Test cricket, it is tight, at least the top two are," Labuschagne told news9live.com in an exclusive interview.

During the interview, he was asked about the slump in the form of Virat Kohli. The Australian cricketer replied by saying that Kohli is an amazing player and will score plenty of runs.

"He is an amazing player. And you know I am sure he will score plenty of runs over the next few years and some hundred, hopefully not against Australia (laughs)."
